Canvas Paintings by Koos Ellis of Port Orchard, WA

The Rolls Royce of Portraits

Canvas painting melds my two passions: photography and painting. Each heirloom canvas portrait I create is designed specifically for my client, from the choice of location, whether the portrait is posed, the mood and spirit of the composition, to creating the right size and shape and color for that client's home. Color psychology is utilized to plan clothing and scenic choices in order to create a specific spirit. Your portrait is created at the best time of day for the most beautiful lighting conditions, at your favorite time of year. Some of my clients have a location that has deep meaning to them, others just want a place of scenic beauty. I take advantage of several gorgeous local parks. These elements are the foundation of your artwork.

The unique artwork creation process starts a couple weeks later when you choose your favorite poses at your proofing session. Retouching and advanced editing options are used, tones and colors are adjusted, and several computer programs can be utilized to edit, enhance, beautify and enlarge your portraits.

My monitors are color calibrated to the lab, where the image is printed to canvas using archival inks and materials, all made in America. After stretching and attaching the fabric to wooden stretcher bars, I embellish your portrait by hand, with paint I mix to match some of the details of the portrait. The portrait may be over-painted as much as about 70% coverage. This technique is called photographic embellishing.

"That is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

"This is exactly what I have been dreaming about finding!"

"It looks 3D - like you are really there with the people."

"Beautiful...amazing...gorgeous."
